thinkingmonkey.jpgI get spit on by people when I tell them that Mutual funds suck but I don’t care! Think to yourself, do you know anyone who has got rich from investing in Mutual funds? We all hear the same old thing “if you invest so much money for 50 years at 15% you will be a millionare”. Not only do Mutual funds usually give poor returns but they are expensive and risky! The average MER management expenses ratio is about 2% and with inflation/gas we could add another 4% a year. Now what do your returns look like? You would need 6% just to break even. Imagine in 1950 if you were told you could have a 100,000$ if you dollar cost averaged a special fund? What is a 100,000$ now? Could you retire off that sum of money? Ever wonder how in Canada, where I live, we have two thousand listed stocks but over 4 thousand listed Mutual funds? How is that even possible? I mean this guy running your fund could be throwing darts at a board or just copying down something he read the other day. I hear the same old thing “I don’t have time to invest in Stocks or Property.” Well it’s not that hard investing your money into a private REIT or a joint venture and the returns on these investment vehicles have made people millions. No work required on your part besides filling out legal document – it’s great! If you are jumping up and down when you make 5% returns you need a wake up call! Send me some of that money I’ll make you 5%.
In 2000 a monkey named Raven was chosen for an experiment where she would pick stocks by throwing darts at a board. As the stock market fell apart Raven returned a 213% return. Now think to yourself how did your Mutual funds do in 2000? Is riding out waves really a good idea all the time? The people running Mutual funds don’t care about you or your retirment nest egg, they care that you are paying fees. Excellent investments are everywhere no matter if the sky is falling in the stock market, real estate or there is a economic meltdown as so called experts like to put it. I’m begging you people out there, do not, I repeat DO NOT throw your money into these pits where you are at the mercy of the economy and market – it’s suicide.
